James City County, VA Car Accident: 13-Year-Old Killed
In one moment your entire life can change. Such was the case for the family of a 13-year-old who was killed when the minivan he was riding in lost control and careened into the path of a dump truck. The accident occurred on VA Route 5/John Tyler Highway in James City County, Virginia (VA). Three adults were in the van, as were three children who suffered injured. It’s unknown if the deceased teen was related to any of the other people.
Losing a child is one of the most difficult thing a parent can go through, and, as Virginia personal injury attorneys, it is the most difficult type of case we handle.
Many of our lawyers are parents, and we take these cases very seriously. When a child is injured or killed, there are often long-lasting effects to the parents that need to be addressed as well. In the midst of all this pain and grief many parents are at a loss as to where to start the legal process.
If it was indeed the parent of the 13-year-old who was driving the van, the mother or father may falsely believe he or she can’t recover damages on behalf of the child who died. That is just not true. What do I mean? First, never accept fault without fully understanding what caused the accident-because a parent’s own fault does not mean a minor is not entitled to recover.
